So.............Anyone who knows me knows I have a dangerous life. I am a secret agent, chase bad guys down in south-east Fresno, attempt to clean my kids room, etc., etc. However the real danger we all know is my habitual nature to throw myself off of perfectly good cliffs and spin recklessly through the air on my snowboard. I am not quite as daring as I once was, and never would claim to be a master of the skateboard, more of a recreational user. They have therapy groups for guys like me: old skaters anonymous.
So one day about 12 weeks ago,I am on the way home from Modesto out taking photos, and I was passing through Madera when I noticed the skate park there starring me right in the face. Well it just so happens that the park is more like a park of the 70's then a modern cement paradise. I also conveniently had my gear in the trunk. So I pulled off the road to get a quick 10 minute session. Sure enough about 10 minutes later I ate it really hard when in all reality I was not doing anything crazy. I was barely rolling. Wish I could say I was was setting the bar for Tony Hawk and Shawn White but such was not the case.
So I figured I was only bruised real bad and I was ok. I get home and told Heather I fell and that I am alright. Well about 30-45 minutes later I was like; "Heather, I think I need to go to the Hospital." So off we go. Now here is where is gets interesting. I was already in the hospital earlier that day with my daughter Kaylen who was having some asthma probs and her doctors office was closed. So I sat in the ER yet again for a second time that day, waiting in terrible pain. After about a day later or so the guy comes in and says yeah you got a broken elbow. So sucks to be me.
All in all after a visit to the ortho I learned that my arm did not need surgery. My boss yelled at me, which is funny because technically he is not my boss as I am a 1099 contractor, anyway regardless the guy never said sorry hope all is well or nothing. Anyway...........12 weeks later I am fine and healed up well, minus the scar tissue, which still makes some tasks hard to accomplish. I am in the gym as often as time allows to do some self therapy on it and the arm is getting better each week. But the cool thing is and fact remains, that even with the broken elbow, I can still ride better than most so even for an older guy and will be back on the board soon.
